Renovation Stress

Ok, you have checked your contractor’s credentials, you have a quote and you are set to go, right? WRONG! I don't meant to be harsh, but for most clients doing a renovation is a stressful situation. Having a contractor that has all the right credentials does not mean you will have a stress free renovation. A renovation is a big upheaval in your life. Finding a company that you can work with is very important.

Having a connection with your contractor can make all the difference in your project. Every renovation has is challenges and how your contractor works with you before and during the renovation will either increase your stress level or decrease it. Clients that have worked with us in the past will understand what we are talking about. Your contractor has to listen to you and you have to LIKE your contractor.

Now I am not saying you have to be best friends with your contractor and his company. But if the interaction between the two of you does not make you feel comfortable, it will not be a comfortable renovation. You have to remember you will be sharing a very personal part of your life with someone who essentially is a completed stranger. Would you want someone that your barley trusts to take care of your prized possession? Again don't get me wrong they still have to be professional and know what they are doing, but a little compassion and humor goes along way.

You also need to like your contractor because they have to build your ideas. You have to trust that the advice that the contractor and his team are giving you is right for you. We live in an age where there is a wealth of information out there, but how does it all relate back to you? How do you know what work in Ontario will work in Alberta (I am not poking at any TV Contractors). Can they give you the advice and information you need to make an educated decision for yourself?

As you are interviewing contractor and doing your due diligence on checking references and getting detailed quotes. Stop and think about how your feel about the contractor? Do you feel like they will listen to what you want? Do you think they are passionate about what they do? Do you think they care as much as you do?
